Stepping Up is a fully funded, two to three month positive action programme from the NHS Leadership Academy. It has been designed for individuals who have an interest in developing their leadership abilities and want to be involved in creating a transformational change in equality and diversity across the healthcare sector.
The programme aims to create greater levels of sustainable inclusion within the NHS by addressing the social, organisational and psychological barriers restricting BAME colleagues from progressing within the NHS. It is split into two cohorts – one for bands 5 and 6 and another for people in band 7 roles and runs across four or five residential dates (depending on cohort). The programme has been designed specifically for these colleagues.

Transformation across Systems
In our recent work to understand system leadership behaviours for public sector leaders, resilience was one of the most prominent themes. Across 17-18 the NHS NWLA expanded the range of offers available for our members to take an in-depth look at their levels of resilience and the impact of this for leadership and cultures of high performance.
Following on from the success of our previous Building and Sustaining Personal and Organisational Resilience workshops, the NHS NWLA are delighted to confirm a new set of dates for these sessions across the Autumn 2018. Workshops are aimed at executive leads and senior leaders working at a system level and further details and booking information can be seen below:
What do we really mean by resilience? Is it something anyone can develop? And how does resilience affect performance, wellbeing and happiness?
Personal resilience is arguably the most important resource for coping well during challenging times. During a one day masterclass we will be supporting senior leaders working at a system level across the North West to explore skills that will increase confidence in their ability to bounce back from the many pressures senior leaders encounter in today’s workplace and daily lives. In addition participants will focus on reviewing the leadership required to build effective performance and wellbeing within their teams, both within organisations and across localities and systems. All too often interpersonal conflict, especially harassment cases go unattended or end up with costly investigations (time, money, resources and personal trauma).
Mediation offers an alternative process (not instead) to conflict resolution, allowing parties to resolve problems and let go of their sense of grievance and mend broken relationships.
Mediation Skills Training is a 4 day programme which will cover the entire mediation process from first contact with the first party to closure and review. It aims to give participants a solid foundation in fundamental Mediation Skills, such as active listening, impartiality, rapport building with disputants, managing conflict and facilitating negotiation. It aims to develop an understanding of mediators own responses to conflict, so that they can manage their own feelings and assumptions and interact constructively with disputants. Read more here

There are training dates now available for facilitators associated with the Healthcare Leadership Model 360 degree feedback tool. New facilitators should have some experience in holding coaching-style conversations, and should have an interest in assisting their colleagues to develop.
Training for new facilitators consists of completing your own 360 degree feedback process, an online learning package as well as a 1-day face-to-face training course. The 360 degree feedback process and online training package will need to be completed as pre-work before attending the training day.
Dates for the face to face one day courses are as follows: 16th July or 23rd July and will be held at the Clinical Education Centre, Southport. Your trainers on the day will be Tracy Gunn, Head of Education & Training and Karen Apulinario-Jones, Practice Educator.
To book, please complete the application form and return it to Colette Halliday by 21st May 2018
