SAS doctors

At Southport and Ormskirk NHS Trust we have approximately 65 Specialty and Associate Specialists in post at various levels. This is amongst the largest number of SAS Doctors in the North West region.  The SAS Docs work across the 2 hospital sites and in community posts with multi-specialty representation.

There are generally 3 SAS educational evening events held per year. We have approximately one SAS educational event per month sponsored By Health Education North West so minimal costs are incurred to attend. These educational events cover a range of management, educational and personal development topics. They are arranged and co-ordinated by our own SAS & Postgraduate Administrator.  She also arranges SAS Doctors mandatory training days to allow SAS Doctos to keep mandatory training up to date with minimal effort and loss of clinical time.

We have multiple SAS Doctos acting as both educational and clinical supervisors and we provide numerous examiners for the final medical exams (LOCAS)
The SAS Doctos in the Trust actively participate with the appraisal process as both appraisers and as Doctors. We have a 79% compliance rate of SAS appraisal, one of the highest in the region.

We have SAS representation at multiple Royal Colleges, at the Local Negotiating Committee, at hospital management board, local educational meetings and also HENW activities across the region.  SAS Doctors' education and development is actively encouraged within our trust.

For SAS Doctors at the Trust and also those who do not work at the Trust but would be interested in attending one of our courses, please contact our SAS Administrator for more details.
