We are taking this time at 10 years to both look back and look forward as a community. Seeing our proud history of connections, collaboration and co-creation reminds us to be optimistic and, as always, open to new and fresh approaches to our collective challenges. This month’s spotlight is on Health and Wellbeing - Supporting you to support yourself #HWBNWLA
Health and Wellbeing is fast becoming a key focus across the public sector for both individuals and organisations, as they find themselves in increasingly complex environments. Across the North West, the ask is bigger than ever. Our anniversary page is available here and features a blog from Compassionate Coaching facilitator Amanada Super looking at Self-Compassion at Work: New Year, New Start!
There are also a selection of photos, videos and an interactive notice board available on the page, please get in touch and let us know how do you look after your own health and wellbeing at work? How could we support you to support yourself? And how can compassionate coaching support your team and the wider health landscape?
The NHS NWLA will be releasing ongoing Health and Wellbeing opportunities to support our members, look out for new information around this in our regular monthly comms and updated on our website, including the Perform @ Your Peak offer mentioned below.
Below are the additional highlights for this month. Please see the menu for full details and further opportunities.

The module will provide clinicians with background information, principles and practical skills in using the national key enablers for end of life care, which may be localised in the area in which they work and therefore may have different names or content - the participants will be encouraged to research the forms of enablers used in their locality. These include the principles of co-ordinating the care of those approaching the end of life, planning for their future care, dealing with uncertainty in the situation of acute illness (with uncertain recovery) in those with an already poor prognosis, recognising and providing care for the dying in line with the Priorities for Care of the Dying (2014), the NICE Guidance for Care of the Dying Adult (2015) and respecting patient choices when dying has been recognised.
The module will include a review of the development of palliative and end of life care, and cover the building blocks of symptom assessment and management, care planning, communication skills, ethics related to living the last months of life, spiritual assessment and care, bereavement care and future care planning.

What do we really mean by resilience, is it something anyone can develop? And how does resilience affect performance and wellbeing?
Personal resilience is arguably the most important resource for coping well during challenging times. During a one day masterclass we will be supporting senior leaders from across the North West currently undertaking transformation across their systems and localities to explore skills that will increase confidence in your ability to bounce back from the many pressures senior leaders encounter in today’s workplace and daily lives. In addition you will focus on reviewing the leadership required to build effective performance and wellbeing within your teams, both within organisations and across localities and systems.
• Learn about the leadership characteristics which help build and sustain team resilience
• Explore the links between psychological and physical wellbeing, productivity and engagement
• Develop leadership behaviours and examine how to create healthy followership

Revalidation, Appraisal & Medical Education Quality Programme Manager
The NHS needs radical action to improve working conditions, boost training and retention and become a ‘model employer’ for staff, a report on the future of the health and care workforce has concluded.
Facing the Facts, Shaping the Future, A health and care workforce strategy for England to 2027 is a whole national system consultation document, produced by Health Education England with content from NHS England, NHS Improvement, Public Health England, the Care Quality Commission, National Institute for Clinical Excellence and Department of Health.
The draft strategy takes an uncompromising look at the challenges faced by the health and care system, charting the growth in the NHS workforce over the last five years while setting out the critical workforce challenges that will be faced over the next decade.
The strategy is a draft document with a number of areas that will now be consulted upon widely over the coming months and a final report will be produced next July to coincide with the NHS 70 anniversary as the first comprehensive health and care workforce strategy in over 25 years.
