Read the article here PEM (Paediatric Emergency Medicine) Guides was spearheaded by Dr. Michael Mojica as a point of care resource in the paediatric emergency departments at Bellevue Hospital Centre and NYU Langone Medical Centre. The focus is in essential diagnostic, treatment and disposition decisions and though not a definitive resource it does have concise and easily accessible information for a wide number of conditions in the Paediatric Emergency Department. And, besides, the price is right, and it will continue to be updated unlike those books printed on paper.

The eWIN Benchmarking Service provides access to a range of key workforce productivity metrics which allow for strategic comparisons. Benchmarking in itself is a key tool to self-assess operational performance and set standards and targets for improvement. This service has been built to underpin key principles around quality, innovation, productivity and prevention, providing access to timely and readily available information on which to evidence base improvements in workforce efficiency and productivity. In November 2015 the Government announced its commitment to increasing the growth of apprenticeships as a viable and significant option for developing skills and employment opportunities. The levy will be collected from 6th April 2017. The Apprenticeship reforms are significant and will have major implications on NHS organisations, including:

You'll hear how one organisation set up a dashboard which intuitively forecasts trends in workforce data, allowing teams to manage retention hotspots before they occur. Also featured is the story of how another trust saw a return rate of over 50 per cent of exit questionnaires when they included an online option. This has allowed staff in the organisation to raise concerns and the trust to address them promptly and efficiently. Glimpse of brilliance or ‘GoB’, is a simple but effective concept – it’s about building on the good things.
We know that staff are achieving fantastic things every day despite the challenges so let’s shout about it! Every week, we share a ‘Glimpse of brilliance’ both internally and on social media. A colleague at WCH nominated Elaine Heron, community midwife team leader for this week’s glimpse of brilliance. Elaine was in attendance at the Workington Reds away game vs Matlock Town on Saturday 21st January, when suddenly a fellow supporter became ill. Elaine and a retired GP who was also in attendance started giving the gentleman mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and CPR until the paramedics and ambulance crew arrived. A Matlock Town spokesman said: “I don’t think there’s any doubt that they saved the man’s life. He came round and was talking to the paramedics when they took him away in the ambulance but the initial work which saved him had been done by the two Workington supporters.” You can read more on the this story at http://www.newsandstar.co.uk/news/Workington-Reds-fans-hailed-lifesavers-after-man-collapses-at-match-cfd58a69-60fa-4df1-ab53-388aea2a2dc5-ds *Credits - The Academy of NHS Fab Stuff ![]() The Safety Thermometer App, built by the NHS Quality Observatory and supported by Haelo, has been introduced to Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust to revolutionise the monthly audit of data. The audit, a national requirement, aims to monitor harm-free care across the nation. It is estimated that, in the acute setting, the new process will save on average 58 hours per month– that’s 696 hours per year! Of this, 73% (507 hours) are clinical hours. That equates to approximately £11.5k per annum. On average it was estimated that 76.25 hours were spent in total per month on collecting and processing the information for submission in the acute setting alone (excluding paediatrics and maternity). Successful Feedback Feedback from Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust wards has been very positive, even from those who are reluctant to embrace technology. Comments include how much time has been saved, how easy it is to use and understand and how refreshing it is to be able to come on shift to do the audit to find it has already been done by another member of staff with little to no supervision.
