have your say on the leadership behaviours and skills required for system leaders across the public sector

Recognising the essential role of strong system leadership in delivering integrated, place-based services across the public sector, the NHS North West Leadership Academy (NHS NWLA) is currently seeking to understand the key behaviours and skills needed from our future system leaders.

We would really value your reflections from the various positions you hold within the system. As many of you have multiple roles, not least as citizens, you may receive this email more than once - apologies for any inconvenience caused. To that end, we would like to invite you to join the conversation on our crowdsourcing platform by clicking here. You will find thirteen key behavioural themes that emerged from a recent cross-sector stakeholder event designed to initiate and stimulate debate on future system leadership needs.  Please join the discussions by voting and commenting on the ideas therein, adding in any system leadership behaviours we might have missed, and inviting others to join the conversation.

KEEP TALKING AND SHARING TO #TRANSFORMTALENT

We are keen to capture a broad range of views from citizens, communities and colleagues across the public sector - sharing and diversifying the stories, ideas and insight of people from across the system. Please do share far and wide within your networks, as well as continuing the conversation with us on Twitter #transformtalent.

To keep things moving, the crowdsourcing link will only be available until Wednesday 9th August 2017.  We will continue to ‘work out loud’ with you over this period, sharing the evolving discussion and debate so that everyone is able to access and build on this approach. Keep an eye out for further information on this project on our website – more details to follow soon!

For now, please do take a look at our ‘focus on system leadership’ webpage with reflections from our recent joint masterclass with Margret Heffernan.

We look forward to chatting with you online!

Government brings forward pension age rise

25/7/2017

Picture
On 19 July, the Department for Work and Pensions published its review into the state pension age, proposing a new timetable for the rise to age 68. The government explains this is to maintain fairness between generations in line with continuing increases in life expectancy.

Under the proposed new timetable, the state pension age will increase to 68 between 2037 and 2039. This is earlier than the current legislation which sees a rise between 2044 and 2046. The change will affect everyone born between 6 April 1970 and 5 April 1978.

The report also recognises that:
  • rises in state pension age must be part of a wider package that encourages people to plan for their retirement, enables people to work for longer where they can, and supports those who cannot work.
  • there is a need to provide certainty and transparency going forward. In addition to seeking to provide adequate notice for those affected by new changes to state pension age, there must be a clear strategy for communicating future changes to help with wider financial and later life employment planning.

The timetable is in line with the recommendations put forward to the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions by John Cridland CBE in March 2017 following his independent review of state pension age.

You can access the full report on the gov.uk website.
