The Trust now have an internal pool of coaches who are waiting for you! Coaches can help you in a range of ways including: transitioning into a new role; developing performance and skills in your current role; overcoming work related challenges and enhancing effective working relationships to name but a few.

Silas Nichols, Chief Executive is supportive of coaching and through embedding a coaching culture across the Trust it provides a tangible way of ensuring that our SCOPE values are translated into the day to day relationships between staff at all levels. Here are a few words from Silas about his experience of coaching:
"Through personal experience, I would thoroughly recommend coaching as a development tool.  It has helped me to improve impact throughout my career by providing me with a structured way to think about things differently and to become better in my working practices.  As a senior leader it has enabled me to measurably improve my productivity, performance and relationships.  I have become a more effective leader, creating a proactive and flexible environment supported by an excellent senior executive team - working together, with you, to achieve great things.

Utilising a coaching style in the conversations we have with each other and the way in which we work is one way we can support each other to be the best we can be both on an individual and organisation level.  It helps create an environment where we can all contribute towards the ongoing growth and development of the Trust as a great place to work."

We are delighted to confirm a new range of development opportunities from the NHS North West Leadership Academy (NHS NWLA) running throughout 2018.  Health and Wellbeing is fast becoming a key focus across the public sector system for both individuals and organisations, as they find themselves in increasingly complex environments. Recognising this, the NHS NWLA will be releasing ongoing Health and Wellbeing opportunities to support our members, look out for new information around this in our monthly Development Opportunities and through regular updates on our website.

We are launching this with two fantastic offers supporting senior leadership across the North West, taking place in early 2018. Make it part of your New Year resolution to look after your health and wellbeing, build that well of resilience and shape your self-compassion. Please find further details and booking information below:
Building Resilience: Supporting Transformation Across Systems and Localities

What do we really mean by resilience, is it something anyone can develop? And how does resilience affect performance and wellbeing?
Personal resilience is arguably the most important resource for coping well during challenging times. During a one day masterclass we will be supporting senior leaders from across the North West currently undertaking transformation across their systems and localities to explore skills that will increase confidence in your ability to bounce back from the many pressures senior leaders encounter in today’s workplace and daily lives.  In addition you will focus on reviewing the leadership required to build effective performance and wellbeing within your teams, both within organisations and across localities and systems. You will:
• Learn about the leadership characteristics which help build and sustain team resilience
• Explore the links between psychological and physical wellbeing, productivity and engagement
• Develop leadership behaviours and examine how to create healthy followership
We will be holding three full day sessions at the end of January and beginning of February across the North West and booking links are available below. Further information is available on our website here.

Monday 29th January 2018 - Park Inn by Radisson, Manchester - Book Here

Tuesday 30th January 2018 -
Radisson Blu Hotel, Liverpool - Book Here

Wednesday 7th February 2018 - Macdonald Tickled Trout Hotel, Preston - Book Here
Compassionate Leadership Coaching Programme: Developing Self-Compassion and Shaping your Culture

This 8 week programme is a unique opportunity for senior leaders working in the complex and changing landscape of health and care, to work one-to-one with a chartered occupational psychologist, to explore self-compassion through a coaching relationship, webinars and a half day workshop.  In this way the programme is flexible to suit your schedule and availability.

This will enable those responsible for leading teams across their system and locality to acknowledge and respond to their own need for compassion and therefore allow them the opportunity to more fully engage, support and influence colleagues and staff in their delivery of compassionate care to patients. For further information please visit our website. The programme will consist of -
• Four one to one coaching sessions, each lasting one hour, conducted through our online meeting service and access to three, fifty minute training webinars, looking at the three key components of self-compassion
• Following completion of the programme there will be required attendance at a half-day face to face workshop for the whole group to meet. This will be held on Wednesday 11th April 2018 at 3 Piccadilly Place, Manchester

Due to limited places on our first cohort attendance is via application only:

We are looking for coaching and mentoring champions who will be our strategic link to developing a coaching and mentoring culture within their organisation and also support cross-organisational coaching and mentoring. This person will have lead responsibility for setting the coaching and mentoring strategy within their organisation and utilising support from the NHS North West Leadership Academy (NHS NWLA) where appropriate, promoting coaching and mentoring and for supporting coaches, coachees, mentors and mentees across their organisation.

Our champions model has been in effect for a number of years and we are excited to announce that we have reviewed how we support our champions to build and develop a coaching and mentoring culture within their organisations. This includes developing a network of champions for peer support, shadowing opportunities, joint partnership working and sharing practice and learning. We also have commissioned specific CPD opportunities for our champions to access following feedback from the network on learning needs and areas of developments for the champions role. We have aligned our coaching and mentoring support so that champions have access to information on both areas and identified how we can support champions progressing internal models and what support they can access through the NHS NWLA systems and processes.

Once we receive your application form, we will arrange a telephone call with Rehana Begum, our Coaching and Mentoring Leadership Development Manager, to discuss your application and the role further.

We would love to see you on the day and if you have any queries in the meantime, please don't hesitate to get in touch at NWLA.coachingandmentoring@nhs.net or give us a call on 0161 625 7809.

Do you work for us and want to advertise the training you do, the events taking place in your area and the great work you're doing?

Are you looking to attract new people to your profession and to work with your team?

Then make sure you have your place on the Education & Training website.

It's as simple as 1, 2 3
  1. Think about what you want to advertise/share? Is it a training event, information you want prospective new employees to read about, daily/weekly bulletins, are you holding an event?
  2. Think about how you would like to share the information i.e. a one off news flash via What's New?, set up a page with some sub-headings, share your update via the Education & Training weekly bulletin?
  3. Answer the above questions and then be in touch, we're waiting to hear from you.

NHS England support Sports and Physical Activity @ Work awards 2016

14/7/2016

‘The workplace is a great place to provide opportunities for staff to be more active and evidence tells us the benefits for the employer are many fold – improved morale, team working and performance as well as a more committed and engaged workforce. In this context being active doesn’t just mean engaging in team sports, putting on those running shoes and trips to the gym. It includes a range of activity like workplace singing , dancing , gardening, organized thematic walks and cycling too. For example singing has many physical and psychological benefits because it is an aerobic activity that increases oxygenation in the blood stream and exercises major muscle groups in the upper body, even when sitting. So we would love to hear about your more creative responses to getting people more active too’

Applications for the award will help NHS organisations to meet section 9 of the new CQUIN guidance https://www.england.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/HWB-CQUIN-Guidance.pdf

How can buddying help my team?

2/6/2016

What is buddying?Buddying is an informal mentoring relationship between a new starter in your team and a more experienced, established team member. This is normally someone working in the same role as the new starter, although not always. This relationship provides a less formal sounding board for the new starter to ask questions about the role as they settle in, helps the new starter to understand the culture of the team and provides another level of support for the new starter in addition to their manager.

Teaching, Coaching & Mentoring for SAS Doctors

Thursday 16th June 2016
Education Centre, The Royal Oldham Hospital
13:00  – 16:00 pm

If you would like a place on this session please email medicaleducation.troh@pat.nhs.uk

Only book onto these courses if you are able to attend the FULL session. If you leave early, arrive late or miss any part of the session you will not receive a certificate and it will be logged that you have not completed the course. All training courses are very popular and we run it on a first come first serve basis and have a reserve list when they are full therefore it would be unfair to partially attend when we have doctors keen to attend the full session.

As you are aware there is a cost to these courses which is being covered by the Medical and Dental Education Department. We re-claim this funding from Health Education North West (HENW) and are required to submit a register of attendees to secure the funding.  If you are unable to attend the course, it is vital that you let us know at your earliest opportunity so that a colleague on the reserve list can take your place. Failure to notify the department of your withdrawal from the course may result in an invoice to cover the cost of your place on the course as we will be unable to re-claim this from HENW.
