Welcome to our monthly enewsletter, providing you with all the latest information, offers and events:

Support the expanding talent pipeline in the North West with the NHS Graduate Management Training Scheme (GMTS)
Deadline to submit a statement of intent to host in 2019: 15th March

This year GMTS has expanded its annual intake from 200 to 500 trainees - the biggest expansion undertaken in the history of the Scheme. For the North West this equates to 75 trainees within the 2019 intake, which creates increased opportunities for organisations in the North West to benefit from hosting a trainee. The scheme offers trainees the opportunity to become successful leaders in the NHS and is crucial in sustaining our talent pipeline, as outlined in the NHS Long Term Plan.
As part of the expansion GMTS will migrate to a co-funding model, where costs are shared between the NHS Leadership Academy and host organisations. The new ‘commitment to pay and assurance process’ encourages organisations to take a collaborative and system-focused approach, with a lead host organisation leading on the submission of information at each stage of the assurance process, on behalf of a partnership or collaborative.

For more information about the expansion, the new co-funding model and how to host a graduate in your organisation or system please see our website.

Advance Care Planning study day

27/2/2019

0 Comments

Dear Colleagues

RE: Advance Care Planning Training Opportunity
I am writing to you to ask for your support within your organisation to promote staff attending a one-day Advance Care Planning (ACP) Training Course.
I know you will appreciate how important it is for patients to have the opportunity to
document their future wishes and preferences at end of life to aim for a prepared and planned death. Therefore, a group of specialist palliative care education centres in the North West of England joined together to form a regional network, The North West Coast Learning Collaborative (NWCLC) to design, deliver and quality assure a high-quality ACP programme for delivery across their localities. The NWCLC was successful in bidding for project funding from a partnership between Health Education England (working across the North West) Greater Manchester and Eastern Cheshire Strategic Clinical Networks and the North West Coast Strategic Clinical Networks.
This well evaluated programme has now already been delivered to range of frontline staff. The programme has also supported the development of Facilitators who have been trained to prepare and deliver the programme. This free programme is particularly aimed at frontline staff from health, social and voluntary sectors. I would be grateful if you could promote this training within your organisation by sharing this letter to your relevant colleagues. Details about how to book on a session: North West Coast here and Greater Manchester here.
Evaluations from Staff who have already undertaken the training have indicated that it was "a wonderful, informative day. Really makes you think about your practice and evaluate how you do things" and "Fantastic session, very educational and enjoyable. I will be recommending to colleagues. Thank you".
We do hope that your colleagues and organisation can benefit from this helpful development. Yours sincerely,
Dr Michael Farrell, Head of Education Transformation - North, Health Education England

system od and change consulting skills programme for change leaders - applications now open - deadline 6th feb

8/1/2019

0 Comments

The NHS NWLA is delighted to offer a  fantastic opportunity for leaders within the region to increase their knowledge and upskill their practice in system level transformational change through the System OD and Change Consulting Skills Programme.
What’s it about?
The programme provides participants with an intensive development experience to extend leadership confidence and skills in utilising a system change consulting and facilitation approach, when engaging in cross-organisation and system transformation.
Who is it for?
The programme is relevant to senior leaders working in transformational change and leading or supporting strategic, complex system change, including but not exclusive to senior OD/HR or transformation professionals.

"The nature of change has changed. The change we face in society in general, and in the health and care sector in particular, is now more complex than ever before.  The shape and delivery mechanisms of our organisations need to continually adapt to deliver in a 21st century context. The consulting skills programme has been designed to support NHS staff who want to work with our most challenging issues to gain the skills and confidence to work more effectively. It aims to enable practitioners to ‘slow down’ and take a deeper look at how they work with change in order that we can build our capacity for change with a pool of local change agents who are ready and able to work with our most challenging issues."

Maxine Craig, Programme Facilitator

What is the commitment?

The programme will comprise of 4 face to face workshop days as below, taking place at the Ibis Styles Haydock. Participants will be required to attend all sessions.
  • Monday 11 March 2019;
  • Tuesday 30 April 2019;
  • Tuesday 11 June 2019;
  • Thursday 18 July 2019
Participants will also be supported with virtual coaching sessions between workshops and will utilise a self-identified, ‘live’ system change/transformation project to explore their learning in practice.
The return on investment should be high through individual, project and system level benefit being realised

If you are interested in taking part in the programme, please review the additional information and access the application form via our website here.

Please return your completed application form to nwla.info@nhs.net by 5pm on Wednesday 6th February 2019.
