The course content will be set by the participants’ own agenda of situations they find challenging when communicating with patients, families and other health professionals. It will concentrate on awareness behaviours and facilitative skills which we need to be able to recognise in order to overcome challenges and develop consistency when handling difficult situations.
Participants will undertake a small piece of role play and be expected to work as a group to provide constructive feedback.
Learning outcomes: By the end of this course you will be able to:
- Consider what situations are challenging for you and begin to recognise why this is so
- Be able to recognise blocking behaviours and facilitative skills
- Recall a simple model of communications skills which you can use in challenging situations
- Recall a simple model of communications skills which you can use in challenging situations
