Following the publication of the new band 6 paramedic profile, a two-day national event was held to design a programme that consolidates a NQP’s first two years of learning.
Representatives from NHS Employers, NHS England, the College of Paramedics, the English NHS Ambulance services, and ambulance trade unions, agreed that the programme was needed to develop NQPs before they move into the band 6 role.
The NQP programme specification will now be written up and communicated to staff, including paramedics that have qualified since 1 September 2016. A national job description will be developed in partnership.
Further work will be required by employers to ensure effective implementation of the programme by engaging with both staff and trade union representatives.
