We are delighted to announce the publication of 'Improving the physical health of people with mental health problems: Action for mental health nurses’ on Friday 20 May 2016, on www.gov.uk/dh.
The document will be launched by Dr Ben Thomas, Mental Health, Learning Disability and Dementia Care Professional Officer, at the ‘Parity of Esteem: Catalyst for Change’ event for Mental Health and Learning Disability Nursing Directors and Leads, being held at the University of West London on the same day.
We would like to say a big thank you to all of you, for helping us develop this resource, which aims to raise awareness and support mental health nurses to provide better physical care for mental health service users by tackling some of the key risk factors for physical illnesses.
Your support has been invaluable in ensuring that the resource is evidence based and includes good practice examples that can be adopted by mental health nurses across the country in all care settings.
We received many good practice examples, which unfortunately we were not able to use as we were limited to only two per action area. We would therefore like to encourage you to submit your good practice examples to the Better Care Exchange so that they can be shared with colleagues across the country.
Finally, we have printed a limited number of copies of the document, so if you would like a copy, please email me with your full address and I will arrange for a copy to be posted to you.
